The National Association of people living with HIV and AIDS of South Africa is astounded at the recent results of an ever

increasing HIV Infection rate, but we are still committed at realizing at the Zero Infection rate as part of not only as the Country National Strategic Plan in particular, but the goal of the UNAIDS in general.

We appreciate the fact that we have the largest ART programme in the world, with 2, 4 million PLHIV on treatment, also being the best practice country when it comes combating HIV, as the UNAIDS has said, but might also have some adverse repercussions to our prevention programmes, hence as NAPWA-SA suggest that as PLHIV Sector we should start a campaign saying “It Stops With Us – A vision for an HIV Free Generation”.

HCT has played a tremendous role in South Africans knowing their HIV status, regardless of their race and gender and particularly encourage men and boys to be at the forefront of HCT campaign.

In conclusion, the interventions on HIV response should stop to only focusing on biomedical approach but also looking at social factors. It is high time to strengthen our education prevention strategies and specifically target the age group that is highly affected. We support the call to introduce the branding of new condoms that are flavored. This on its own will assist as young people will be encouraged to use condoms whenever they engage on sexual activities.
